Harvest Market Launches Christmas Wine Packs!

Launceston's Harvest Market is launching some Summer wine packs, and we are really thrilled to be included in them!

Winsor's Pick 6 Pack

This summer / Christmas pack includes a Sharmans' 2008 Sparkling and 2012 Sauvignon Blanc, a Humbug Reach 2009 Chardonnay, our One Bunch Chardonnay 2011, a Humbug Reach 2010 Pinot Noir and our gold medal One Bunch Pinot 2011.

Gold Medal 3 Pack

This three pack is exciting because Harvest's three wine producers all won gold medals over the previous few months! Sharmans' 2011 Pinot won a gold and a trophy at the International Cool Climate Wine Show in Mornington Peninsula, the same show where our One Bunch Pinot 2011 won a bronze. Our 2011 then won a gold medal, the only in its class, at Bathurst's National Cool Climate Wine Show. The sister wine to this one won a gold at the Hobart Wine Show under Guy Wagner's Bass Fine Wines label! The third wine is Humbug Reach's stunning 2011 Chardonnay - the only gold in it's class at the Hobart wine show.

We are all really proud of these wines, and I'm sure you'd find them a worthy Christmas to give someone...or give to yourself!

OBP2009 now available through The Trig!

We are pretty excited to see our 2009 OBP has been taken on by a boutique accommodation in Lilydale - The Trig, on Mt Arthur.

Susie and Gordon have created a new eco-friendly place to stay with stunning views over the surrounding region. It is a perfect spot to relax and share a bottle of red.

At the same time, through Susie's work with the Launceston Polytechnic, our 2010 Pinot is being used there at the Bistro, and is featuring as this week's featured wine!

2011 Pinot Review

Our OBP2011 has been reviewed by Winsor Dobbin in the Sunday Examiner, noting the 2011 as "by far the best to date" of our Pinots.

He says this is "a wine that is drinking delightfully well in its youth with bright, forward fruit, spicy/savoury notes and some delicious softness on the palate".

Many thanks to Winsor for that one!

We are Back in White!

It is with relief and excitement that we have our Chardonnay available once again!!

Our One Bunch Chardonnay was a real favourite with the punters that were looking for a fresh, clean and crisp white white over summer. People looking for Savvy, Pinot Gris or Grigio were all pleasantly surprised that a Chardy could fall into the range of wines they enjoy!

Check the website, or come and see us at Harvest Market Launceston to try it!

New post hole digger!

We thought we'd trial a new post hole digger on the vineyard...

It is a Lotta, 2012 model.

It's enthusiastic, but I am not sure if it is efficient enough...

International Cool Climate Wine Show 2012

The results are out!

Congrats to Mike Sharman of Sharmans Wines for his top gold and Trophy for Best Pinot Noir in last week's International Cool Climate Wine Show! It is extremely good to see a Tassie Pinot taking out such an award!

Our OBP2011 won a bronze in the 2011 Pinot class...which is nice...

New Stockist - The Aproneers

We are pretty excited to see The Aproneers, in Lindisfarne (near Hobart) taking on our wine! They have the 2009 at the moment, but stay tuned for us to be doing some tastings down there of all our wines!

Check out their fantastic store - The Aproneers (great look to the site btw folks!)

OBP2010 at Jailhouse Grill

Something I have said to myself for a while now is why haven't we opened any avenues with restaurants in our own home town?

Well, I am very happy to see our OBP2010 being taken on by Launceston's Jailhouse Grill!

The Jailhouse is a place I love - great atmosphere, fantastic people, a surprisingly excellent winelist, and some of the best steak I have enjoyed (I make sure Josh Hammersley is on the grill when I go). The menu has a great variety of dishes.

If there is anywhere that our 2010 Pinot is going to feel at home, it is in a steakhouse!

When you are in Launceston, make sure you visit the Jailhouse Grill
(I suggest you get a group together and book the private room!)

A new outlet for Gryphonwood in Hobart!

We are really pleased to see our One Bunch Pinot 2010 being served at the new and exciting Westend Pumphouse!

Westend Pumphouse is a fantastic venue, with it's central island bar and funky décor.

These guys have an awesome layout out front - what used to be a vehicle entry is now a glassed enclave with lounge and espresso bar!

We wish them all the best, and I have a new fav coffee stop for my Hobart trips!

OBP2009 is BACK!

I dropped in to see our winemaker today, and was promptly led upstairs to the mezzanine storage area. In the rear corner he showed me a long lost and forgotten pallet of 2009 Pinot Noir! Nearly 50 cases of it!

SO! Gryphonwood's One Bunch Pinot 2009 is back; older and wiser than before!

Come and try it at Harvest Market in Launceston, or call us for a bottle!

Gryphonwood now available through Alps & Amici!

It was a pleasant surprise for us (at Harvest last Saturday) to be visited by Anna Martin from Alps & Amici, a fantastic foodstore in East Launceston. Anna had taken home some wine the weekend previously, and it was great to get good feedback from her.

So, Gryphonwood's Once Bunch Chardonnay 2011, and One Bunch Pinot 2010 are now available from Alps & Amici!

Go and check out this awesome store for yourself!

Gryphonwood will have a stall at Launceston's Harvest Market this Saturday and the next! The Market is loaded with fantastic foods (and of course wine!), so come down and say hi.

We will have all our wines there this weekend, including a special pre-release tasting of our lovely 2011 Pinot Noir!

See you there!

Last of the Festivale wine

With Festivale done, it's time to take stock of the wines we presented there.

2009 Pinot Noir is down to its last handful of cases. We will put this one away to allow age development and for use in some planned guided tastings and food matching events.

2010 Pinot Noir is plentiful and going strong! Still youthful, but developing nicely with being allowed to breathe, this wine has fruit like the 2009, but also Pinot's amazing funky/earthy characters. Comments such as savoury, mushroom and forest floor were tossed about by the crowd. It is youth still, but has a lot more going on than the 2009 did.

2011 Chardonnay - wild yeast batch. We had a small batch of chardonnay that came to Festivale with us as a bit of a one off. Its mild oak, savoury and leesy characters were nicely balanced by fresh citrus. This was a hit with people who don't normally enjoy a chardonnay. I have only 3 cases of this wine left.

Very soon, our standard 2011 Chardonnay will be available. It is a close cousin to the above wine, so stay tuned for further news of it!

cheers!

Festivale 2012

Festivale is done for 2012, and what an experience!

A combination of rain, bright sunshine, big crowds, Daryl Braithwaite, big fat Slim Chefs and a glowing technicolour Polar Bear made for a memorable weekend of fun, wine and good food.

Gryphonwood's first public outing was an eye opener, with a lot of people coming to see us as the new kids on the block. It was a surprise to be announced runners-up for Best New Stall!

I have to offer a big thanks to the many people who helped us get there - you are too many to list, but are remembered nonetheless.

The wines were well received, and our Wine Matched Sampler Platter was a hit. The local produce was stunning.

Check out our website for more pics. In the meantime, have a technicolour Polar Bear!

A great Australia Day!

January 26th, Australia Day.
A day that lets us be proud of what a great place the Land Down Under is!
There are a few traditions that must be observed on Australia Day -

Small flags should be placed on your letterbox or gate/fence. A minimum of two is required.

A BBQ, over which senior males present must observe the excess charring of lamb chops. We even did our bit for multiculturalism this year - we marinated some of them with honey soy and sweet chilli!

Beer, as soon as the day gets warm, a lull in conversation, or you exert yourself in any fashion, then a beer is necessary hydration. Women may enjoy wine; Queenslanders may use ice cubes in their wine.

Music should be played, with  fair percentage of Aussie artists. In the absence of music, cricket on the telly is the other option available. Tennis may be used as an alternative if females outnumber males in the room...particularly women's matches.

Water should be mixed with children - be it a pool, at the beach or a sprinkler in the back yard. Rain may be deemed the same effect as a sprinkler.

A dog should be on hand to collect scraps of chops, or steal food from plates and people too short to hold said food safely overhead. If the dog refuses bbq scraps, it is not an Aussie dog.

Dress code may be selected from red/white/blue or green/gold. Canary yellow is an inappropriate colour.

The word 'mate' should be used frequently.

It is a good thing, to be an Australian!

2010 Pinot Promo Winner!

Congratulations to Julianne Ferrier of Newcastle, for her win in our 2010 Pinot release promotion!
She now has a fantastic set of Pumm B glasses to enjoy, and we are sure she will make good use of them!

Well done!
